Tampa elder law attorneyThe Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) recently announced a new program that provides comprehensive assistance to family caregivers. This new initiative, called the Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers (PCAFC), is designed to provide support for family caregivers who are looking after service-connected disabled veterans. Let’s take a closer look at the eligibility requirements and what this program has to offer.

Eligibility Requirements

The PCAFC program has specific eligibility requirements for both the caregiver and the veteran they are caring for. In order to qualify for this program, the caregiver must be at least 18 years old and either related to or living with the veteran full-time or willing to live with them full-time if designated as a family caregiver. Additionally, the veteran being cared for must have a disability rating from the VA and require personal care services due to their disability.

Benefits of Participation

If both you and your veteran meet all of these eligibility requirements, then you may be able to access certain benefits through the PCAFC program. These benefits include payment of travel expenses related to receiving medical care, access to mental health counseling, in-home help with activities (such as laundry, grocery shopping, meal preparation, etc.), respite care, and more. Additionally, participants in this program can also receive ongoing training and education about providing home care which can give them greater confidence in their ability as caregivers.
